Jump in and test your strategy skills!
The
bestofpei Store is pleased to sponsor the first ever JUMP Game Tournament in cooperation with JUMP Game creators John and Lorna Ansems and Mavor's Restaurant. The tournament will be held Saturday, March 8th from 2-5pm at Mavor's Restaurant in the Confederation Centre of the Arts.
JUMP was created by John and Lorna Ansems of Prince Edward Island over two very stormy winters in 2000-01. After a long process of attaining the necessary intellectual rights to protect their new venture and securing the individual game components, the Ansems were ready to launch their game in 2006. Developed “For the fun of it!', the game will challenge and entertain by allowing interaction between players and offering a high degree of strategic play.
John Ansems challenges Islanders to, “join the creators of JUMP for the first annual JUMP Tournament. It does not matter if you have experience playing or not, you are welcome to join us for an afternoon of fun and games.”
If you have never played the game or want to hone your skills, then
attend a free information session on Sunday, February 24th from 2-4pm at the bestofpei Store location 156 Richmond Street, Victoria Row where John and Lorna Ansems will show you how to play the game, and maybe even play a game or two with you.
To sign up for the tournament, registration forms can be picked up at the bestofpei Store on Richmond Street or by filling out the
online registration form. There will be a $5 registration fee that will be donated to the Soup Kitchen and is payable at the door on the day of the tournament.
What makes this game unique? JUMP is unique in that (a) a high level of interaction makes for dynamic and fast-paced play, (b) players have the ability to control/interfere with the progress of other player’s game pieces, (c) close finishes encourage rematches, and of course, (d) it was created on P.E.I. by ‘Islanders’.
What are the basics of the game? Essentially, the objective of the game is to be the first player/team in a race to move all game pieces around the track and into a home path, while impeding the progress of the opposing players/team through strategic interference. Players move around the board, using cards dealt to them. Cards are clearly marked with alternate uses, increasing the available play options. A key component is that play pieces can be coupled, allowing the top player to take control of his opponent’s play piece(s). Other forms of interaction include trading, uncoupling, switching control, and sending an opponent back to start again.
